Stedin Group works towards energy transition by appointing Chief Transition Officer in Board of Management Stedin Group

Rotterdam, 15 December 2017 – Stedin Group welcomes David Peters as Chief Transition Officer (CTO) and member of the Board of Management. With this step, Stedin Group emphasizes the importance of the energy transition. The parent company of grid operators Stedin (provinces of Zuid-Holland and Utrecht) and Enduris (province of Zeeland) considers the transition from fossil fuelled to sustainable energy to be one of society's main challenges for the coming decades.

David Peters (37) will assume his new role on 1 January 2018. At present, he is still active as Strategy Director at Stedin. In this position he is also involved in changes that are taking place in the energy sector. Peters: “These are interesting times: the energy transition and achieving climate neutrality by 2050 has substantial consequences for all the people in the Netherlands. Stedin Group plays an important role in this. We must not only take an interest in new technologies such as blockchain and data analytics, but must also be able to continue to learn and enter into new partnerships. I look forward to contributing to this interesting challenge!”

Currently, the Board of Management of Stedin Group consists of CEO Marc van der Linden, CFO Gerard Vesseur and COO Judith Koole. Recently, the need has arisen to strengthen the board with the appointment of a CTO who can focus specifically on the energy transition.

Challenges

Stedin Group observes that society is faced with many changes in the way in which energy is generated, distributed and used. Examples include the continuing growth in the amount of sustainably generated wind and solar energy. There will also be an increase in the number of customers that will have to be disconnected from the natural gas supply, resulting in a challenge of providing heating to households. Furthermore, the digitisation of the energy grid will provide new opportunities. The energy infrastructure must be adapted to deal with all of these changes.
